Mantra and the Energetics of Sound

Language is our medium of expression, which we depend upon for most of what we do, whether in the ordinary or the spiritual life. Yet language is not a passive or objective medium.

It possesses a certain form or bias relative to the culture that produces it. For this reason, it is not merely enough to use words. We have to understand the nature and the limitations of the language in which they are cast. Otherwise, no matter what we may say, our language may distort the meaning and cause it to have results other than what we may have intended.
